What it is
Understanding outlet & switch installation
Device work sounds minor and often isn't. Adding a receptacle means confirming the existing circuit can carry it, fishing cable, cutting in a box, and landing the connections properly. Replacing a switch may reveal a missing neutral, aluminum conductors, an overfilled box, or backstabbed connections that have been slowly loosening for thirty years. We repair what we find instead of covering it back up.
It's also where code has changed most. Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, garages, outdoors, and areas near sinks and pools require GFCI protection; most living areas require AFCI protection on new circuits; and tamper-resistant receptacles are the standard in dwellings. Outdoor devices need weather-resistant receptacles with in-use covers, which matters a great deal in this climate.
Signs you need this
- Running extension cords or power strips permanently because outlets are short
- Two-prong ungrounded outlets, or three-prong ones with no actual ground
- Outlets that are loose, don't hold a plug, or are warm to the touch
- No GFCI protection in a kitchen, bath, garage, laundry, or exterior location
- Outdoor receptacles without a weatherproof in-use cover, or full of water
- Wanting USB-C outlets, a countertop circuit, or an outlet where furniture moved
- Switches that buzz, need to be held, or control nothing identifiable

What's involved locally
Circuit capacity comes first
Before adding devices we check what circuit they'd land on and what's already on it. Extending a kitchen or garage circuit that's already loaded just moves the problem; sometimes the correct answer is a new dedicated circuit, and we'll price that honestly rather than quietly overloading an existing one.
GFCI and AFCI
Where code requires GFCI or AFCI protection we install it, and we test the device before we leave. If an existing protective device trips repeatedly, that's treated as a fault to diagnose — not something to swap out until the tripping stops.

Permit pulled where required
Where the work is permitted in Palm Beach County, we pull the permit and meet the inspector. That's ours to handle, not yours.
