What it is

Understanding ceiling fan installation

A ceiling fan can only hang from a box listed and marked for fan support, braced to the structure. A standard lighting box is not rated for the weight or the vibration, and a fan hung from one will eventually loosen — that's the single most common problem we find on fans installed by someone else. Where there's no existing box, or the existing one isn't fan-rated, we install a braced fan box and wire the switching for it.

In Florida the outdoor version matters as much as the indoor one. Covered patios, lanais, and screen enclosures need damp- or wet-rated fans depending on exposure; an indoor-rated fan on a lanai corrodes and the blades warp. High ceilings need the right downrod length so the fan actually moves air, and enough clearance to be safe.

Signs you need this

  • A fan that wobbles, rattles, hums, or drops dust when running
  • A room with no fan and no ceiling box where you want one
  • Fan pull chains broken, or you'd rather control it from the wall
  • A patio or lanai fan showing rust, sagging blades, or a dead motor
  • A two-story great room or vaulted ceiling that needs a longer downrod
  • A fan and light that share one switch and need separate control

What's involved locally

New locations and switching

Adding a fan where none existed means running cable, cutting in a braced box, and deciding how it's controlled — separate switches for fan and light, a fan-rated speed control, or a wall or smart control. Standard dimmers must never be used on a fan motor; we install the correct control type.

Covered outdoor spaces

For lanais and covered patios we install fans rated for the exposure and mount them to hardware suited to the ceiling structure, whether that's wood framing, concrete, or an aluminum enclosure frame.

Our process

How the job runs

Same sequence on every job, from a single outlet to a service change.

  1. 1

    Free estimate

We look at the actual conditions — panel, circuits, access, the run — and give you a scope and a price before any work starts. Getting the estimate costs nothing.

  2. 2

    Permit pulled where required

Where the work is permitted in Palm Beach County, we pull the permit and meet the inspector. That's ours to handle, not yours.

  3. 3

    Done to code

Installed to the Florida Building Code and NEC as adopted locally, then tested before we leave — including GFCI/AFCI devices and correct panel labeling.

  4. 4

    Upfront pricing, no surprises

If we find something unexpected behind a wall or in the panel, we stop, show you, and re-quote before continuing.
